As they moved past a jagged outcrop, the cries grew louder. Noemi’s chest tightened. Something was terribly wrong.
Then, she saw it. A wolf pup, caught in a washed-up fishing net, its tiny head barely above the water. It struggled to free itself, gasping for breath.
The mother wolf let out a deep, sorrowful sound, pawing at the net but unable to free her pup. Noemi’s throat tightened. She couldn’t just stand there. If she wanted to help, she would have to approach the wolf.
